I once heard a successful businesswoman say something to a group of women gathered for a business conference that has stuck with me for years: “Discipline is a transferable skill.” At the time, she wasn’t speaking about better customer tracking, the relentless pursuit of business leads, or  elevate-fitnessmeticulously managed financial records. She was sharing with the group that it was time for her, a beautiful and dynamic but significantly overweight lady, to drop the extra pounds for good. It can be tempting for busy, successful people to use their achievements and responsibility as an excuse for letting their bodies go, but what she said that day was right. If you’re successful at anything in life—whether a challenging career or thriving family or finely-tuned craft or skill, you already possess what it takes to get fit. Successful people get where they are by knowing what they want and setting specific, measurable, achievable steps to get there. When it comes to working out, do you know what you want and what steps it will take to get there? Or do you treat it as a haphazard chore—hopping on a treadmill here, trying a few yoga moves while the baby is napping there, or waiting until your big project at work is over before you give it another go? (Do you really think you’re going to be less busy once you successfully nail that presentation and garner your employer’s admiration? Probably not!) Chances are, you’re already a pro at achieving things that are important to you—creating the perfect birthday cake or fine-tuning your golf swing. And chances are, deep down you dream of being fitter, stronger, healthier, and less prone to injury. That’s where I step in—to help you take the skills and discipline you already have and apply them to creating and implementing fitness goals that work for your life. With the right goals and the right plan customized for your specific needs and lifestyle, you’ll find that a fit body and healthy mind will complement your busy life, not compete with it. Discipline is a transferable skill, and that couldn’t be truer when it comes to exercise. Because it works in reverse too, you know. A strong, lean body will give you the confidence to believe in yourself, listen to what you truly want, and tackle those obstacles that are standing between you and your personal and professional ambitions. Exercise also has the added perk of not only increasing your mental stamina through the practice of self-discipline, but actually elevates your physical energy levels to create more of the stuff that already makes you great. So are you ready?
